Not only does this game feature the nation’s No. 1 and No. 2 rushers, Arizona’s Ka’Deem Carey (146.4 yards per game) and Nevada’s Stefphon Jefferson (141.9), leading high-output offenses, but—scoreboard alert!—it also includes two of the FBS’ worst defenses. The Mountain West’s Wolf Pack are 111th out of 120 teams in rushing defense, but they’re better in total defense (87th) than the Pac-12’s Wildcats (116th). But don’t see the defenses as half-empty; the offenses are overflowing. First-year Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez’s spread option ranks seventh in total offense (521.8 yards per game) and 17th in scoring (37.3 points per game), while Nevada’s pistol is 11th (502.8) and 20th (37.0), respectively.

NFL prospect to watch: Matt Scott, QB, Arizona. He’s a different style of passer than his predecessor, Eagles rookie Nick Foles. His combination of athleticism and arm strength out of the spread makes him a draft sleeper.

SN’s pick: Arizona. The Wildcats have too many offensive weapons for the Wolf Pack, who have lost four of their last five games after a 6-1 start.
